Superior Skilled Trades (SST), a leading skilled trades staffing firm, is seeking an Onboarding Team Lead to oversee onboarding operations, compliance documentation, and new hire readiness processes. This is a hands-on, working Lead role responsible for supporting a team of onboarding specialists while ensuring employees are successfully onboarded, compliant, and prepared for assignment.
Location: Onsite – Austin, TX
Compensation: $70,000-75,000 annually, with potential bonus eligibility
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-5:30 PM
Core Responsibilities
- Support onboarding operations for approximately 1,500–2,000+ employees annually across multiple states.
- Serve as a hands-on, working Lead for a team of onboarding and compliance personnel.
- Assist with daily workload management, task prioritization, issue escalation, and team support.
- Oversee the collection, review, and completion of all required onboarding documentation, including employment eligibility, tax forms, policy acknowledgments, and client-specific requirements.
- Ensure employees complete all pre-employment requirements, certifications, training, and client-mandated onboarding steps prior to assignment.
- Coordinate with recruiters, account managers, clients, and field employees to ensure onboarding timelines are met.
- Audit onboarding records and personnel files for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Help ensure onboarding deadlines, client requirements, and operational expectations are consistently achieved.
- Identify recurring onboarding challenges and help drive process improvements and efficiencies.
- Assist with documenting, improving, and standardizing onboarding procedures and workflows.
- Provide coaching, guidance, and training support to onboarding team members.
- Support evening or weekend work when required to meet client onboarding deadlines or business needs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, I-9 requirements, E-Verify processes, prevailing wage requirements, apprenticeship documentation, and client-specific compliance standards where applicable.
- Partner with payroll, recruiting, safety, and operations teams to ensure a seamless employee onboarding experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or related field preferred.
- 3-5+ years of closely related onboarding, compliance, human resources, staffing, or workforce administration experience.
- 3+ years of prior lead, senior onboarding specialist, onboarding coordinator, compliance coordinator, or onboarding supervisor experience.
- Experience in a multi-state temporary staffing environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of employee onboarding processes, employment documentation, and workforce compliance requirements.
- Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in a high-volume, deadline-driven staffing, onboarding, or compliance environment.
- Experience in staffing, construction, industrial services, skilled trades, or high-volume hourly workforce environments.
- Ability to lead, support, and coach a team while remaining hands-on in daily operations.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to audit onboarding documentation accurately.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Ability to identify discrepancies, troubleshoot issues, and follow through to resolution.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and onboarding/compliance tracking systems.
- Experience with applicant tracking systems (ATS), onboarding platforms, E-Verify, Fieldglass, or similar workforce management systems.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends based on business needs.
- Highly ethical team player who communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience supporting onboarding operations for 1,000+ employees.
- Experience creating, improving, or documenting onboarding SOPs and compliance procedures.
- Strong process improvement mindset with the ability to identify inefficiencies and recommend solutions.
- Knowledge of prevailing wage, apprenticeship, credentialing, and workforce compliance requirements is a plus.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
