Salary: $40/hr. - $65/hr.
We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician who will be responsible for the installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation and control systems used in nuclear energy applications.
This role supports the safe and efficient operation of equipment by performing routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs on electrical, instrumentation, and control systems within a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical & Controls
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot 120V–480V AC electrical systems.
- Wire and troubleshoot motor control circuits, including VFDs, contactors, relays, and overloads.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
- Work with PLCs, including I/O wiring and diagnostics.
- Perform proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance activities.
- Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain transmitters for:
- Pressure
- Flow
- Level
- Temperature
- Configure and troubleshoot HART and 4–20mA analog signal loops.
- Maintain and troubleshoot:
- Control valves
- I/P converters
- Thermocouples
- RTDs
- Perform instrument loop checks and assist with system commissioning.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Support SCADA integration activities.
- Document completed work using appropriate maintenance and project documentation systems.
- Assist with root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
Experience working with:
- Multimeters
- Clamp meters
- Meggers
- Loop calibrators
- HART communicators
- Hand and power tools
- PLC software, including Studio 5000 and TIA Portal
- SCADA interfaces
- Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical, Instrumentation, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of industrial electrical or instrumentation experience.
- Familiarity with NEC, ISA standards, and NFPA 70.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and control system theory.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Safety-focused approach to maintenance and field activities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Prior experience supporting nuclear construction projects, NQA-1 environments, DOE projects, oil and gas, ASME-related construction activities, or similarly regulated technical programs.
- Multidisciplinary construction quality experience spanning civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation activities.
- Experience coordinating quality execution across multiple subcontractors and construction interfaces within general contractor environments.
- Familiarity with nonconformance systems, turnover packages, traceability systems, controlled work execution, and field verification methodologies.
- Working familiarity with field measurement systems and technical verification workflows.
- Strong operational judgment with the ability to make technically defensible decisions under ambiguity and schedule pressure.
- Experience performing or supporting subcontractor audits.
