Fulltime, Internal Position: Tax Accountant
Location: Tampa, FL (onsite)
Salary: $80,000+ (depending on experience)
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
Highly ethical team player who effectively prepares and files multi-state payroll tax returns, including withholding, unemployment, and other employment-related taxes, ensuring timely submission and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Supports the Corporate Controller in managing Sales and Use tax (SUT) filings for multiple jurisdictions, including calculations, reconciliations, and payments.
Works with customers to bill sales tax when necessary, ensuring timely payments, and communicates any discrepancies effectively.
Coordinates the set up and administration of state and local tax, licensing, and secretary of state filings.
Coordinates with regulatory and tax authorities, or third-party accounting and legal services providers, to ensure compliance across various states.
Monitor changes in state and local tax, licensing and legal regulations across states, advising on compliance strategies and implementing necessary updates to processes.
Conduct tax audits, respond to notices from tax authorities, and resolve discrepancies related to payroll tax and SUT for employees, customers, or states.
Maintain detailed records of tax filings, exemptions, and credits; prepare reports for management on tax liabilities and savings opportunities.
Assist in nexus determinations for new state expansions and evaluate tax implications for business activities to assist sales team in determining cost implications.
Utilize tax software and tools to streamline filing processes and improve efficiency.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Ability to file Federal payroll taxes (FICA, FUTA) and state/local variations (e.g., SUTA, local/city taxes, PFML, disability insurance).
Ensure compliance with multi-state Sales and Use tax (SUT).
Ensure compliance with multi-state licensing regulations and secretary of state requirements.
Research nexus determination, apportionment, reciprocity agreements, registration for new states, wage/hour laws across jurisdictions.
Stay current on legislative changes, tax controversies, and audit responses.
Knowledge of financial and accounting principles, controls over financial reporting, tax related regulatory compliance ,and legal matters.
Excellent communication and organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Proficient with accounting, billing, and sales tax software systems.
Ability to work at a fast pace with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
