We are seeking an experienced Lead Structured Cabling Installer for a direct-hire opportunity with our client in Melbourne, FL. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for leading structured cabling installations across commercial, government, and industrial projects.
The ideal candidate will have extensive copper and fiber experience, strong crew leadership skills, and the ability to work directly with clients, project managers, contractors, and other trades.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Field Leadership
- Lead crews of 3–10 technicians and oversee daily field operations.
- Install, terminate, test, and certify Cat6, Cat6A, Cat8, and fiber optic cabling systems.
- Ensure installations meet BICSI, TIA/EIA, and NEC standards.
- Perform copper and fiber certification testing using Fluke DSX, OptiFiber Pro, OTDR, and similar equipment.
- Install cable pathways, racks, trays, conduit, J-hooks, patch panels, and fiber enclosures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, construction drawings, and project specifications.
- Train and mentor technicians while maintaining a safe, productive job site.
- Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and other trades.
- Maintain accurate labeling, documentation, as-builts, and material inventories.
- Identify and communicate field issues, scope changes, and project risks.
Client & Project Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
- Conduct site surveys and provide technical guidance and project updates.
- Assist with project estimating by evaluating labor, materials, and scope.
- Support the development and review of project quotes for accuracy and profitability.
Required Qualifications
- BICSI Installer 2 – Copper required
- BICSI Installer 2 – Fiber Optic required
- 7+ years of structured cabling experience, including 5+ years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Expert knowledge of copper and fiber installation, termination, testing, and certification.
- Experience with Fluke DSX, OptiFiber Pro, OTDR, or similar testing equipment.
- Strong understanding of TIA-568, TIA-569, TIA-606, and NEC standards.
- Proven experience leading structured cabling crews.
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to review project scopes, construction documents, and RFPs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass background checks required for government site access.
- Willingness to pursue BICSI RCDD certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- BICSI RCDD certification.
- Government, healthcare, or DoD project experience.
- Structured cabling estimating and quoting experience.
- Familiarity with distributor and vendor pricing platforms.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- OSP fiber installation experience.
- DAS and low-voltage infrastructure experience.
- AutoCAD or Bluebeam experience.
