The Machine Shop Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of a precision machine shop. This individual will lead a team of machinists, programmers, and operators to ensure high-quality, timely, and efficient production of complex components. The ideal candidate will have hands-on machining experience, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to upholding the company’s reputation for craftsmanship, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, schedule, and coordinate day-to-day activities of machinists across multiple shifts.
- Oversee setup, operation, and maintenance of manual and CNC machining equipment (boring mills, lathes, VTLs, grinders, and machining centers).
- Monitor production workflows and ensure jobs meet design specifications, tolerances, and delivery deadlines.
- Collaborate with engineering and fabrication teams to resolve technical issues and ensure manufacturability of parts.
- Maintain quality control processes and ensure inspection standards are met, utilizing tools like CMM and other testing equipment.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate shop personnel; support continuous skill development and cross-training initiatives.
- Manage inventory of tools, fixtures, and materials; coordinate with purchasing on replenishment and specialty tooling.
- Implement and support lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives to boost efficiency and reduce waste.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs with maintenance as needed.
Required Qualifications:- Minimum 5–7 years of machining experience,
- 3+ years of experience as a supervisor, managing 50+ team members
- Proficiency in operating and programming CNC equipment (Mori Seiki, Kuraki, Daewoo, etc.).
- In-depth understanding of machining processes including boring, turning, grinding, and milling.
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Knowledge of shop mathematics, metrology, and inspection tools.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage teams in a fast-paced production environment.
- Proficient in job scheduling, shop floor management, and productivity reporting.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with dewatering equipment or precision components for the water treatment or heavy equipment industries.
- Experience using AutoCAD and/or CAM software.
- Journeyman or equivalent certification
