Estimator – Grading, Utilities, and Site Work
Location: Columbia, SC (Travel within SC, NC, GA may be required)
Salary: $90,000 – $120,000 (Based on Experience)
Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Position Summary:
The Heavy Civil Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed, accurate cost estimates for grading, utilities, wastewater, site development, and infrastructure projects. Projects typically range from $500,000 to $20,000,000 and may include roads, bridges, and other civil works. This role involves collaboration with engineers, contractors, and clients to evaluate project scope, assess risk, and identify value-engineering opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimate self-performed work, including labor, equipment, and material costs.
Prepare estimates from conceptual, schematic, and final contract drawings, including change orders.
Solicit, review, and prioritize material and subcontractor quotations for management review.
Assess site exposures, construction risks, and constructability issues, reflecting costs in estimates.
Identify value-engineering alternatives to optimize project costs.
Prepare construction handoff packages and assist field teams with takeoff, subcontractor/vendor pricing, and cost strategies.
Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and clients to evaluate project scope and ensure competitive, accurate bids.
Travel for pre-bid meetings, site visits, and field verifications as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
Proven experience as an Estimator for a Heavy Civil Contractor, with expertise in grading, utilities, wastewater, and demolition.
Experience estimating projects including site development, industrial/commercial development, utilities, mining reclamation, overburden removal, and general site work.
Proficiency in Microsoft Project or Primavera, Excel, Word, and Adobe.
Experience with Agtek, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, CAD, or other takeoff/modeling software.
Familiarity with HCSS or B2W software is a plus.
Strong ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with management, clients, and field teams.
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required.
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based with moderate noise levels.
Frequent site visits for pre-bid meetings, field verification, and project development.
