Superior Skilled Trades is partnered with a national commercial electrical contractor specializing in technically complex, sustainable, and high-performance construction projects. They are seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team in Austin, TX.
This is an excellent opportunity for an electrical estimating professional who enjoys working on complex projects and collaborating with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to develop accurate, competitive, and comprehensive estimates.
Position Summary
The Estimator will develop detailed and accurate project cost estimates that support project planning, bidding, and execution. This individual will evaluate project documents, scope, market conditions, labor requirements, material costs, subcontractor pricing, and historical data to develop competitive estimates and identify potential risks and opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical construction and experience estimating commercial or technically complex projects. Experience with data centers, advanced technology, mission-critical facilities, healthcare, life sciences, higher education, industrial, or renewable-energy projects is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate estimates for moderately complex electrical construction projects
- Develop pricing for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs
- Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and contract documents to identify project requirements, risks, gaps, and opportunities
- Perform quantity takeoffs and analyze project requirements to develop comprehensive estimates
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor proposals and pricing
- Coordinate with preconstruction coordinators, project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and other stakeholders throughout the estimating process
- Assemble comprehensive bid packages and provide bidders with clear scope, instructions, and clarifications
- Analyze current market conditions, material pricing, labor costs, vendor pricing, and historical project data
- Support value engineering efforts by evaluating alternative materials, systems, construction methods, and solutions
- Identify opportunities to improve project cost, schedule, quality, and overall value
- Document estimate assumptions, qualifications, exclusions, clarifications, and scope considerations
- Extract and utilize production and historical cost data to improve estimate accuracy and project planning
- Collaborate across company divisions, including prefabrication and other self-perform capabilities, to incorporate production efficiencies into estimates
- Participate in estimate reviews and present pricing, assumptions, risks, and recommendations to project leadership
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes, tools, and best practices
Ideal Candidate
- 4–6+ years of experience in electrical construction estimating, preconstruction, cost analysis, project controls, or a related field
- Strong understanding of commercial electrical construction and the ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, and scopes of work
- Experience estimating electrical labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and related project costs
- Experience with commercial electrical construction or technically complex projects strongly preferred
- Experience with power distribution, lighting, low-voltage, medium-voltage, or other electrical infrastructure is highly valued
- Experience with data centers, advanced technology, mission-critical, healthcare, life sciences, higher education, industrial, or renewable-energy projects is a plus
- Experience with design-build, VDC/BIM, prefabrication, or self-perform construction is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple estimates, priorities, and deadlines
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with project teams, vendors, subcontractors, and clients
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and construction estimating/takeoff software
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered
