Steel Detailer – Direct Hire

Location: Jefferson, WI
Work Environment: Office-based CAD work with coordination in shop and field
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Pay Range: $40k – $85k based on experience
Hours: 40 hours per week OT as needed 
Travel: Occasional visits to production floor

Position Overview

Superior Skilled Trades is partnered with a structural steel fabrication company in Jefferson, WI to identify an experienced Steel Detailer for a direct hire opportunity. The ideal candidate will be proficient in creating accurate shop, assembly, and erection drawings for structural steel and miscellaneous metals, with strong attention to detail and experience collaborating with engineers, project managers, and fabrication teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce shop and erection drawings for structural steel and miscellaneous metal components for commercial, industrial, and architectural projects.
  • Interpret architectural, structural, and contract drawings to determine fabrication requirements.
  • Prepare material lists, field bolt summaries, cut lists, and bills of materials.
  • Review, check, and revise drawings based on redlines, RFIs, and field changes.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, fabricators, and erectors to resolve detailing issues.
  • Ensure drawings comply with AISC standards.
  • Maintain organized drawing files, track job progress, and meet schedules.
  • Provide support and clarification to production and field teams as needed.

Required Skills & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree in Drafting, CAD, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in structural steel detailing or related drafting work
  • Proficiency with CAD and modeling software: Tekla Structures, SDS/2, AutoCAD, or similar tools (Tekla often preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, specifications, and structural drawings
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with 3D modeling workflows in Tekla or similar software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) for reporting and documentation
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes, erection sequencing, and industry standards

Compensation

Pay Range: $40.00 – $85.00 per hour, based on experience
