Seeking an experienced Transformer Assembly Oversite Technician for direct hire, long-term roles with one of the fastest-growing industrial electrical service contractors in the nation, known for delivering high-quality transformer maintenance, electrical testing, electrical construction and distribution system solutions with HQ in Tampa, FL. Responsibilities for Transformer Assembly Oversite Technician
Oversee field assembly of power transformers, ensuring adherence to OEM manuals, drawings, torque charts, and work instructions.
Verify critical steps: tank inspection, core/coil handling, tap changer installation and alignment, bushing assembly, gasket prep and sealing, conservator/radiators/fans/pumps installation, oil processing/vacuum dry out, and final checks.
Witness and document hold points, inspections, and tests per ITP/QCP (Inspection & Test Plan / Quality Control Plan).
Review and validate manufacturer’s specifications, drawings (GA, wiring diagrams, schematics), and field change notices before execution.
Maintain daily reports, photo records, punch lists, non conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective actions.
Confirm torque values, clearances, and alignment meet specification; verify material certificates, serial numbers, and BOM traceability.
Ensure proper cleanliness, moisture control, and contamination prevention practices throughout assembly.
Witness field tests (as required): insulation resistance, turns ratio (TTR), winding resistance, power factor/DDF, excitation current, SFRA, CT polarity and ratio, and functional checks of OLTC controls/auxiliaries.
Confirm test instruments are within calibration and results meet acceptance criteria; escalate deviations promptly.
Field test witnessing and acceptance criteria familiarity (IR, TTR, winding resistance, PF/DDF, SFRA).
Qualifications:
Experience: 5+ years hands- on experience with transformer assembly (medium/large power transformers preferred; distribution transformer experience considered if assembly responsibilities were significant).
Exposure to NDT basics (e.g., leak detection, dye penetrant on weld repairs—witness level).
Experience with CMMS or quality systems (e.g., NCR/CAPA workflows).
Basic familiarity with SCADA/relay interfaces for auxiliaries and controls (witnessing and point-to- to point checks).
Certifications: OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E training, Rigging/Signaling, First Aid/CPR.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring diagrams; basic multimeter usage for verification.
