A growing energy and infrastructure company is seeking an experienced Field Commissioning Manager to oversee commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and energization activities for renewable energy projects. This role leads field commissioning teams and coordinates with engineering, construction, SCADA, utilities, and operations to ensure systems are installed, tested, and energized safely and according to project specifications.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in utility-scale renewable energy, electrical construction, or power generation, with proven experience leading commissioning activities and coordinating system startup and grid integration.
Commissioning Planning & Documentation
Develop and execute commissioning and energization plans for renewable energy projects.
Support the preparation and implementation of Pre-Functional Testing (PFT) and Functional Performance Testing (FPT) procedures.
Review construction drawings, technical specifications, and commissioning documentation to verify readiness for testing.
Maintain accurate commissioning records, test reports, and project documentation.
Ensure field activities align with project schedules and commissioning plans.
Field Execution & Team Leadership
Oversee daily field commissioning activities, including testing, troubleshooting, and system verification.
Supervise commissioning technicians, subcontractors, and equipment vendors.
Coordinate pre-commissioning inspections to confirm installation readiness.
Lead system startup activities and support equipment energization.
Identify commissioning issues and coordinate corrective actions with engineering, construction, and vendors.
Verify equipment performance and integrated system operation.
Utility Coordination & SCADA Integration
Coordinate commissioning activities with engineering, construction, QA/QC, and operations teams.
Support SCADA testing, integration, and verification to ensure proper system communication and functionality.
Coordinate with utilities, transmission operators, and grid authorities for energization and testing.
Support ERCOT testing requirements and grid integration procedures when applicable.
Participate in commissioning meetings and communicate project progress, issues, and resolutions.
Safety, Quality & Process Improvement
Ensure commissioning activities follow company safety policies, quality standards, and project requirements.
Establish standardized commissioning procedures and best practices.
Support training and development of field personnel and commissioning teams.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and commissioning processes.
Promote a strong safety culture and report unsafe working conditions.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
Maintain effective working relationships with owners, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, utilities, and other project stakeholders.
Provide regular updates on commissioning progress, schedules, and field issues.
Represent the company professionally and support customer relationships.
Participate in project meetings, industry events, and additional assignments as needed.
7+ years of experience in renewable energy, power generation, industrial commissioning, or electrical construction.
3+ years of experience in a commissioning leadership or supervisory role.
Experience commissioning utility-scale solar projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, or power generation facilities.
Demonstrated experience leading system startup, testing, troubleshooting, and energization activities.
Experience managing commissioning technicians, subcontractors, and equipment vendors.
Experience coordinating with utilities, transmission operators, and grid authorities.
Knowledge of electrical systems, construction drawings, technical specifications, and commissioning procedures.
Familiarity with SCADA systems and grid integration requirements.
Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
Ability to travel based on project and job site requirements.
Availability to support emergency situations outside normal working hours, as needed.
Work in outdoor and industrial environments, including moderate to extreme weather conditions.
Ability to stand, walk, reach, handle equipment, and perform routine physical activities.
Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 10 pounds.
Potential exposure to hazardous substances, elevated work areas, and partially enclosed structures.
Ability to work safely in moderate to high noise environments.
