We are seeking an experienced Substation Technician with hands-on experience in bus systems, high-voltage equipment ranging from 12kV to 500kV+, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical substations and switchyards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background working on (T&D) systems, including rigid bus, tubular bus, strain bus, transformers, breakers, relays, and associated substation equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Install, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical substation equipment.
Perform installation and maintenance of:
Rigid Bus Systems
Tubular Bus
Strain Bus
Bus Bar Assemblies
Bus Supports and Insulators
Troubleshoot and repair:
Power Transformers
Circuit Breakers
Disconnect Switches
Capacitor Banks
Protective Relays
Control Systems
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on high-voltage equipment.
Perform electrical testing including:
Insulation Resistance Testing (Megger)
Contact Resistance Testing
Relay Testing
CT/PT Testing
Circuit Breaker Testing
Transformer Testing
Assist with commissioning and startup activities for new substations and switchyard expansions.
Read and interpret:
One-Line Diagrams
Electrical Schematics
Wiring Diagrams
Protection and Control Drawings
Construction Drawings
Inspect bus systems for alignment, torque specifications, corrosion, hot spots, and equipment integrity.
Support grounding system installation, testing, and maintenance.
Complete detailed testing reports, maintenance records, and commissioning documentation.
Follow all OSHA, NFPA 70E, utility, and company safety procedures.
Participate in outage planning, switching activities, and emergency response efforts.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
10+ years of substation, switchyard, utility, or power systems experience.
Experience working with high-voltage electrical systems.
Must meet company vehicle driving standards per Motor Vehicle Safety Policy
Must successfully complete company assessment program
Valid Driver’s License required

Grounding Systems
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
Experience performing electrical testing and troubleshooting.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
NETA Certification (Level II, III, or IV)
Electrical Journeyman License
Utility, EPC, or Electrical Testing Company experience
Experience with SEL, ABB, GE, or Siemens protective relays
Commissioning and startup experience
Experience working in substations from 69kV through 500kV+
