Location: Charleston, SC
Compensation: $100,000–$125,000 annually
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM
Hours: Approximately 40–50 hours per week
Travel: Some travel required

About the Opportunity

Superior Skilled Trades is partnered with a leading construction company seeking an experienced Field Superintendent – General Trades to lead self-perform General Trades operations on a major project in Charleston, SC.

This is a Direct Hire Opportunity offering long-term career potential. The ideal candidate will take ownership of field operations and be responsible for driving safety, quality, schedule, workforce management, and coordination across a broad range of interior and specialty construction scopes.

The Field Superintendent will report to the Project Manager and work closely with the construction management team, trade partners, subcontractors, and project leadership.

Project Scope

The Field Superintendent will oversee self-perform activities including:

  • General Requirements and General Conditions
  • General and rough carpentry
  • Interior specialties / Division 10
  • Expansion joints
  • Finish work
  • Other related General Trades scopes

Key Responsibilities

Field Supervision & Coordination

  • Manage and coordinate craft labor and subcontractors on site.
  • Maintain daily field schedules and coordinate sequencing with the project team and trade partners.
  • Attend weekly and bi-weekly project meetings and provide accurate field updates.
  • Identify and communicate schedule conflicts, access constraints, and other field issues to the Project Manager.
  • Manage site logistics related to assigned scopes.
  • Ensure work progresses according to project plans, specifications, and schedule.

Safety

  • Promote and maintain a zero-incident safety culture.
  • Conduct daily site walks and address unsafe conditions before work begins.
  • Lead or participate in daily pre-task planning (PTP) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Immediately report incidents, near misses, and safety observations.

Quality Control

  • Review and understand contract documents, construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals.
  • Verify materials match approved submittals before installation.
  • Conduct in-process quality inspections and address deficiencies promptly.
  • Ensure work is completed correctly before proceeding to the next phase.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate daily field reports documenting manpower, completed work, open issues, and weather conditions.
  • Document work in place with photographs, particularly concealed conditions and special inspection items.
  • Track material deliveries, installed quantities, and projected completion dates.
  • Communicate submittal, procurement, and material lead-time concerns to the Project Manager.

Labor Management

  • Direct and manage craft labor crews on a daily basis.
  • Assist with workforce planning as project needs increase.
  • Monitor crew performance and productivity.
  • Communicate labor performance concerns to the Project Manager.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience supervising construction crews and craft workers in a field environment.
  • Strong knowledge of General Trades and Interior construction, including Division 10, rough carpentry, and related scopes.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and execute work from construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple scopes and work areas simultaneously.
  • Experience with daily reporting and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office.
  • Autodesk experience is a plus.
  • OSHA 30 certification required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Healthcare construction experience.
  • Familiarity with ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) requirements.
  • Knowledge of ILSM (Interim Life Safety Measures) protocols.
  • Experience working in active healthcare environments.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a hands-on General Trades Superintendent with strong field leadership experience who can effectively manage crews, subcontractors, schedules, safety, and quality while maintaining clear communication with the Project Manager and project team.
